Stark Defiance

Stark Defiance

A pale gray horse turns its head in this bold, painterly piece, with the bridle and muscular neck picked out in loose strokes of white, brown, and black. Much of the background is left raw and unfinished, keeping the focus firmly on the animal. Confident brushwork and visible marks give the piece a modern, expressive quality rather than the feel of a traditional horse portrait. The stripped-back composition lets the movement and character of the horse do most of the work.
